Back in October 2014, Google-owned Nest acquired home automation vendor Revolv. Now, 2 years on, the company behind the connected device home hub of the same name is no more, as its owner has shut it down.
"We’re pouring all our energy into Works with Nest and are incredibly excited about what we’re making," a notice on the Revolv website reads. "Unfortunately, that means we can’t allocate resources to Revolv anymore and we have to shut down the service."
The worst part of it all? The Revolv hub and app will stop working on 15 May 2016. The actual device has not been on sale since the company was acquired by Nest, but the new owners did promise to continue supporting existing customers. But as Nest/Revolv put it, the one-year warranty covering device materials and workmanship is expired, and as such killing the services keeping the device operational is justified.
