CEDIA White Paper Tackles Cabling

The latest white paper from CEDIA-- titled "Infrastructure Cabling for Voice, Data and Video"-- is all about the ever-changing world of cabling for home technology professionals.

CEDIA white paperAs one might expect, the white paper takes a deep dive into applications, standards and recommendations for use of a variety of cable families. It aims to demystify infrastructure cabling in all kinds of projects, and moves from the history and properties of each medium to advice on future-proofing.

Focus areas include cable geometry, shielding, power, applications and certifications, and a total of three cable families-- balanced twisted pair, optical fibre and coaxial-- are examined. The white paper features contributions from CEDIA director of technical content David Meyer and CEDIA volunteers, and includes a supplemental overview of cable jacket fire ratings.

“The latest global standards for residential infrastructure cabling go far beyond what many integrators are currently pulling through homes,” says Meyer. “As a key component to any building, integrators need to get infrastructure cabling right to ensure an upgrade path for faster network and video demands. The information contained in this white paper will help them do that.”

So far the CEDIA has released three white papers, Infrastructure Cabling for Voice, Data and Video, An Integrators Guide to Video: Resolution and Securing the Residential Network, and plans to debut three more by end 2019.
