First Alert announces the Onelink Safe & Sound at CES 2018-- a smoke alarm and carbon monoxide (CO) detector featuring voice control capability via either Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant or Apple HomeKit.
The Safe & Sound works like other hardwired internet-connect First Alert products, sending alerts to homeowners' mobile devices in case of emergency. It also doubles as an in-ceiling audio system, thanks to the addition of high-end speakers offering omni-directional audio with "crisp vocals and powerful bass."
Meanwhile use with the above mentioned voice control systems comes through integrated noise-cancelling microphones the company claims can listen to user commands even when music is playing.
As mentioned earlier, the Safe & Sound is compatible with Alexa, Google Assistant and HomeKit. A post-launch update will add AirPlay 2 compatibility, providing means to use iDevices to play Apple Music tracks and other content through the ceiling-mounted speakers on a room-by-room basis.
The Safe & Sound ships from April 2018.
