Yale Smart Locks Get HomeKit

Yale lockConnected lock maker Yale announces a number of its products will get compatibility with Apple HomeKit by March 2017, specifically through a separately sold HomeKit plug-in module.

The HomeKit module is similar to other Yale add-ons providing ZigBee and Z-Wave connectivity. It plugs into the control port of the Real Living Assure and NexTouch Wireless smart locks, and once set up it provides users with access to the Apple smart home platform.

Through the module users can check on battery levels and lock status in the iOS 10 Home app and remotely lock or unlock the mechanism via Siri voice command. One can also include the locks in smart home macros for scene where one can unlock the door, open windows and turn connected lights on when they enter a geofenced area around the house.

The Yale HomeKit module hits the US on March 2017. The company is still to confirm a European launch.
