CEDIA Updates ESC-T Certification Exam

An updated version of the ECS-T Certification Exam is now available from CEDIA, following input and guidance from Americas and EMEA volunteers ensuring the content is relevant for a global audience.

CEDIA ClassThe ECS-T exam is intended for technicians with 2 years of experience, and represents proficiency in the technical knowledge forming the foundation of the residential electronic systems industry. The exam covers lighting control, and features expanded networking content in addition to pre-wire and trim out, integrated control systems and audio/video systems.

“It is considered best practice to update professional certification exams every few years to ensure they stay relevant,” CEDIA says. “The ESC-T exam was last updated in 2014 and with the changing landscape of our industry, it was important to revise the exam.”

CEDIA also has a Certification Handbook explaining the updated policies and providing more instruction on how to prepare and register for an exam. It also offers a new option for those renewing their ECS-T certification-- holders can take a 50-question renewal exam from 6 months before to 6 months after the expiration date, or can renew the traditional way by earning 30 CEUs in the 3 years after passing the examp.

The Kryterion online proctoring service administers the renewal exam, allowing one to take it via PC monitored using webcam, microphone and secure test software. The exam will also be offered at CEDIA training events, but the 1000+ Kryterion international test centre make it accessible to everyone throughout the year.
