Apple will announce a next-generation Apple TV STB at the June 2015 Worldwide Developers Conference, BuzzFeed News reports-- one featuring a "significant overhaul" complete with improved hardware and Siri support.
Reportedly powering the device is the A8 (or a variant thereof), the same inside the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Interestingly the system-on-a-chip is able to output 4K video, meaning the STB will be future-proofed for the high resolution video streaming of the near future. Meanwhile built-in storage will be "well beyond" the 8GB found inside the current model.
On the software front, the STB should include Siri voice control, a new SDK, a dedicated app store and HomeKit compatibility allowing for a spot of smart home device control.
The BuzzFeed News story follows a Wall Street Journal report on Apple plans for a streaming TV streaming-- one featuring a "slimmed down bundle" of 25 channels available on both Apple TV and iDevices.
Apple, in a shocking twist, refuses to comment on "rumour on speculation," meaning we will have to wait until June for further Apple TV news.
