LG Brews Beer at CES 2019

CES is famous for housing a range of odd devices, but LG might have them already all beat with the HomeBrew-- a "capsule-based craft beer making machine," complete with single-use capsules and, of course, connected smarts.

LG Beer makerAs the company puts it, the capsule-based system makes it easier than ever to make an cold, tasty beer. The capsules contain malt, yeast, hop oil and flavouring, and creating said beer simply involves the press of a button. An "optimised fermentation algorithm" takes care of the entire process, from fermentation, carbonation and aging, to serving and even cleaning, and users can check on the process through companion mobile device app.

Customers can make a total of 5 different styles of beer with the HomeBrew machine-- American IPA, American pale ale, English stout, Belgian-style witbier and Czech pilsner. It takes a total of 2 weeks to make up to 5 litres of beer, and once production is complete the machine cleans itself using hot water.

“LG HomeBrew is the culmination of years of home appliance and water purification technologies that we have developed over the decades,” the company adds. “Homebrewing has grown at an explosive pace but there are still many beer lovers who haven’t taken the jump because of the barrier to entry and these are the consumers we think will be attracted to LG HomeBrew.”
