Ingersoll Rand Invests in Connected Home

Ingersoll Rand makes a "strategic investment" in energy management platform developers Powerhouse Dynamics, with a partnership based around the Nexia connected home platform.

Ingersoll RandPowerhouse Dynamics sells the eMonitor energy management system, which featured heavily at the Ingersoll Rand CES 2012 booth. The eMonitor system provides circuit-level energy use statistics for homes and small businesses, and monitors and controls products such as Schlage door locks, Trane HVAC lighting and video surveillance systems.

Financial details of the partnership are not available but the money will allow "both companies to better achieve their visions for the integrated product line"-- meaning Ingersoll Rand will integrate eMonitor with Nexia.

The two companies also want to boost respective residential and SMB businesses. Both Ingersoll Rand and Powerhouse Dynamics have a sizeable small business customer base, while Powerhouse Dynamics wants to to scale its residential business.

The integrated Nexia - eMonitor platform will be available "soon" through select Trane HVAC dealers and builder partners.
