Sonus faber Presents Gravis III at ISE

ISE 2020 sees the launch of the Gravis III, an intermediate model in the Gravis collection completing the Olympica Nova line Sonus faber first introduced back in September 2019.

Gravis IIIThe Gravis III follows the style of previous products in the Gravis line, with a black leather covering and a piano black wooden finish. The top finishes are in wengè and walnut matte, connecting the subwoofer to the Olympica Nova collection. The removable fabric grille with metal pins covers a 10-inch ultra-long throw driver complete with a trilaminated sandwich cone diagram with a layer of honeycomb in between. It manages the excursion and resistance flexing of the driver, and according to Sonus faber the stiffness and lightness of the cone allows the subwoofer to produce tight and accurate bass reproduction.

The Class AB amplifier produces 600W in an 8 ohm load. A wide frequency range is provided through the included digital signal processor, implemented in the input preamp stage, allowing adjustments in order to optimise dynamic and sonic reproduction depth. The subwoofer accepts both high- and low-level input signals, with the first through through a Speakon 4-pin connector managing both L and R channels. One or two line level signals can be carried via balanced or unbalanced cables through two 3-pin XLR and RCA plugs.

Installers can feed LFE signals to the subwoofer through the shared XLR or RCA. In case of customers wanting to avoid cables back to the receiver/preamp/processor, the Gravis III integrates a wireless receiver to pair with an optional transmitter, allowing complete connectivity without long wiring runs. The Gravis III is fully controllable with a companion app. Users can select from four presents or modify the cutoff frequency and acoustical output phase. Delay, parametric filters and limiters are also available, together with a simple self-calibration procedure. A selectable auto-on and auto-off function minimises energy footprint.

The Gravis III is available from February 2020.
