AVG Crowdfunds Chime Router

  • PDF

AVG takes to Indiegogo to launch a consumer mesh network router-- the Chime, a device the company says differs from the likes of the Luma router through the addition of backed-in security.

ChimeLike other mesh network routers found in enterprise environments, multiple Chime units work together to cover the house in "strong and reliable" wifi. The 802.11ac router features dual-band 2.4/5GHz radios, together with a dual-core CPU, x1 USB 2.0 port and x2 ethernet port, and AVG claims a single Chime handles up to 50 devices.

Atlona Ships 4K HDMI to HDBaseT Switchers

  • PDF

Atlona starts shipping the AT-UHD-PRO3-1616M and AT-UHD-PRO3-44M  HDMI to HDBaseT matrix switchers first seen back at CEDIA Expo 2015 to residential market installers.

Atlona switcherThe AT-UHD-PRO3-1616M is a 4K/UHD@60Hz 16×16 HDMI to HDBaseT matrix switcher with PoE and analog audio breakout. It provides eight extended-distance 100m outputs and eight long-distance 70m HDBaseT outputs. It also provides bi-directional extension of both RS-232 and IR control. Four HDMI outputs act as mirrored outputs for routing HDMI-based audio to an AVR or as additional matrix outputs.

Bluetooth Gets More Range, Speed

  • PDF

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) announces the features Bluetooth will be getting in 2016-- including range and speed improvements, as well as the addition of mesh networking.

Bluetooth networkBluetooth Smart speed is set to increase by up to 4x, while speed will be up by 100%-- without, crucially, an increase in energy consumption, even as critical applications get faster data transfers, increased responsiveness and lower latency.

The addition of mesh networking also allows Bluetooth devices to work together in order to cover an entire area or building, opening home and industrial IoT applications. The Bluetooth SIG has a group working on the technology, the imaginatively named Bluetooth Smart Mesh Working Group.

The Luma "Surround Wifi" System

  • PDF

A startup named Luma presents a means to ensure home wifi installations do have any connection dead spots-- a "surround wifi" system consisting of multiple routers.

Luma wifiLuma routers are available as a 3-pack, and form a single network once set up. The company claims the routers "always offer peak performance and speed" by automatically tuning signals according to user position, making it sound like a consumer version of the mesh networks found in large enterprise environments.

Each router carries two dual-band 2GHz and 5GHz radios using 802.11ac Wave 2 wifi.

Just Add Power 3G Ultra HD over IP Converter Ships

  • PDF

Just Add Power starts shipping the 3G Ultra HD over IP video distribution system with built-in scaler and seamless HDCP handler.

Smart homeFirst seen at CEDIA 2015, the "platform" provides video matrixing of 4K signals via HDMI 2.0 and HDMI 1.x sources to any combination of HDMI 2.0 and 1.x screens over a gigabit network and Cat 5e/6 infrastructure. A combination of 3G Ultra HD over IP transmitters and receivers alongside a Layer 3 gigabit managed switch allows installers to build any size of 4K-capable/HDCP 2.2-compliant HDMI matrix, with each screen displaying source content at the highest resolution at 4:2:0 colour bit depth.

Ideal for home routing projects combining 4K/HDMI 2.0 TVs with legacy 1080p/720p TVs, the 3G Ultra HD over IP transmitters and receivers can be deployed alongside a gigabit managemed switch to simultaneously display a 4K source with HDCP 2.2 in 2160p on 4K displays and 1080p on HD displays, as well as lower resolutions on older HD TVs.

Vision’s HDMI Pro Powerline

  • PDF

Vision TC2-HDMIP

Need to get HDMI signal from one room to another through solid walls?

Vision’s HDMI Powerline is a transmitter and receiver set that sends content from your Blu-ray, TV tuner, or PC through the existing electrical power cables from one room to another. According to Vision, it has almost no delay – just 1/33 of a second – and it is designed for ‘mission-critical’ professional audio visual installations where performance and reliability are key.

Plug everything in, turn it on, and it works by design without complex setup. The system transmits the content from one transmitter to one receiver only. Onscreen diagnostics help eliminate problems if any are encountered.
