HDBaseT Gets "Lite" Version

  • PDF

HDBaseT developer Valens Semiconductor want the CE industry to go on a diet, presenting a new version of its A/V connection technology at CES-- HDBaseT Lite.

HDBaseTHDBaseT technology delivers audio, HD video, Ethernet data, control signals and power over 100m of CAT5e/6 cable and is supported by a number of companies (including AMX, Atlona, Crestron and Gefen). However it has still has to achieve mass-market status, mostly due to costs.

In reaction Valens introduces a smaller, cheaper "Lite" chipset-- the VS010, featuring an HDBaseT-Lite transmitter and receiver. It delivers a smaller feature set (only audio, HD video, control signals and limited power) over a shorter distance (70m).

HDBaseT Alliance member Grandbeing Technology is already adopting VS010 technology.

Valens also announces an HDBaseT reference design for CCTV surveillance systems, in collaboration with Lattice Semiconductor. The design should accept multiple camera sensors, transmitting HD video, power and controls over a single 150m CAT5e cable. The company promises the a solution will be simpler and cheaper than IP cameras, and will be ideal for analog and PTZ camera replacement or upgrade.

Sanus Cables Get Slim Additions

  • PDF

Sanus superslimSanus adds the Super Slim HDMI cable range to the Elements AV accessory series-- the 3.3' ELM4303, the 3.3' ELM4306 and the 8.2' ELM4308 models.

All cables feature a wire gauge Sanus says is 45% thinner than traditional HDMI cables (allowing for easy and kink-free bending in tight spaces) and shorter connector heads, which the company says make them ideal for installation behind mounted flat-panel TVs.

The cables carry 1080p and 3D video signals, with an integrated Ethernet cable providing internet connectivity.

TE Intros HDMI Conditioner/Splitter

  • PDF

Transformative Engineering suggests a solution for HDMI handshaking issues by using the HDS-12 and HDS-14 1-input and 2/4-output splitters as HDMI signal conditioners.

TE HDSUsing what TE calls "HDCP stabilisation," the splitters "clean up" unstable identifier markers from certain A/V components, displays and STBs-- providing consistent HD signal display and compliance with all HDMI specifications.

The splitters also provide for ARC (Audio Return Channel) CEC and HEC (Home Ethernet Connection) and all HDMI features (3D, high speed, 2kx4K, XV Colour), with a 5V supply providing power.

Being the largest of the two, the HDS-14 also carries EDID selection circuitry, allowing for resolution assignment and sharing, IR routing and firmware updates via USB port.

Gefen Splits 1 DVI Source in 4

  • PDF

Gefen launches the 1:4 Dual Link DVI Splitter-- offering plug and play signal distribution of x1 dual link DVI source to x4 dual link outputs, with no quality or resolution loss.

Gefen DVI SplitterlIt works with any dual link DVI PC, supports resolutions up to 3840x2400 and includes internal or pass-through EDID (improving connectivity) and optional output masking control via RS-232 port.

A standby mode keeps the unit idle, using only 1W of power when source is inactive.

It is rack mountable and includes a locking power supply, which Gefen says improves installation robustness and performance.
