Sony announces the VPL-VZ1000ES at CES 2017-- an ultra-short throw 4K HDR home theatre projector featuring a laser-phosophor light source ale to project a 100-inch image from just 15cm away from a wall.

Designed to fit smaller spaces than conventional home projectors, the VPL-VZ1000ES measures 93 x 49 x 22cm and weighs 35kg, making it smaller than Sony's previous ultra-short throw projector, the VPL-GTZ1. The Z-Phosphor laser light source generates 2500 lumens of brightness, and uses SXRD (LCoS) panels coupled with the laser light engine to push the deep blacks and bright colours HDR-enabled content demands.

Optoma launches a few products at CES 2017-- including the Optoma 4K UST (Ultra Short Throw), the ZH55 laser projector, the UHD60 home cinema projector and the IntelliGo pico projector.

The Optoma 4K UST is a native 3840 x 2160 resolution laser projector with HDR10 wide colour gamut and an ultra short throw of just 0.18 for images up to 140-inch in size. The UHD60 is another 4K projector, with 3840 x 2160 resolution and vertical lens shift.

On the other hand the ZH55 is a 1080p number offering 3000 lumens brightness, 20000:1 contrast ratio, Rec. 709 colour and HDR wide colour gamut. Connectivity comes through dual HDMI ports with MHL, and the throw ratio is an installer-friendly 1.06 together with a 1.36x zoom. Another home cinema projector is the GT1080Darbee, a successor to the GT1080 offering 1080p resolution, Rec. 709 color, dual HDMI ports, 3000 lumens of brightness, and a 25,000:1 contrast ratio.

Wolf Cinema announces an all-new 4K projector series-- the TXF Theatre Extreme 4K, with 3 projectors using 6th generation 3-chip D-ILA light engine integrated with laser/phosphor for light output and colorimetry.

The projectors making the TXF series are the native 1080p lamp-based TXF-900, TXF-1400 and TXF-2000 and the flagship 4K resolution (4096x2160) TXF-5000 featuring a high-output Blu-escent laser-phosphor light source. All projectors feature 18Gbps UHD HDMI 2.0 inputs with HDCP 2.2 compatibility, allowing the connection of 4K60 4:4:4 sources (scaled to 1080p in the first 3 models) and brightness specs between 2500 and 3200 ANSI lumens.

Also included in all the projectors is HDR10 imaging compatibility, multiple aspect ratio memories, custom factory gamut, gamma calibrations and an all-metal chassis.

BenQ announces a replacement of the W1070 projector-- the HT1070, a 1920 x 1080 resolution number featuring a 6-segment colour wheel (RGBRGB) and six times the speed.

The HT1070 projects a 100-inch image at 2000 lumens brightness from 2.4m distance. Aimed at game or entertainment rooms (as opposed to home theatres), it also includes CinemaMaster Audio via built-in 10W stereo speakers for customers not wanting to use an external sound system.

Connectivity comes through dual HDMI inputs, with one doubling as an MHL port. The projector is ISFccc-certified to provide two calibrated and optimised modes, ISF Day and ISF Night. SmartEco technology provides longer lamp life, automatically adjusting lamp power to use as little light as as necessary to deliver the best contrast and brightness performance, maximising power savings.

dnp launches the Supernova Flex Classic-- a screen using the company's ISF certified 08-85 Supernova material able to roll up and down quickly at the touch of a button via noiseless electric motor.

Available in 100- or 120-inch sizes in 16:9 format, and 100- or 110-inch in 16:10 format, the screens are mountable on walls or ceilings, and are ideal for residential, meeting/conference room and educational applications. A dark grey drop above the image areas allows the retractable screen to roll down to the desired height, and it is compatible with all standard projectors, including 4K projectors.

Vivitek announces the H5098-- a professional-grade projector promising all features demanded by home cinema enthusiasts, including native 1080p resolution, 50000:1 contrast ratio and 2000 ANSI lumens brightness.

The projector uses DLP technology with BrilliantColor for accurate colour and improved illumination optics for a wide colour gamut capable of projecting over 1 billion colour shades. Also in use is a 6-segment colour wheel.
