The Ataribox, a games console based on the Atari machines of old, gets renamed as the "Atari VCS" at the Game Developer Conference 2018, together with the reveal of joystick and controller prototypes.
Described as an "all-new video computer system inspired by more than 40 years of history," the Atari VCS was first announced back at E3 2017. The device was originally set for launch on December 2017 via the Indiegogo crowdfunding platform, but the campaign was canceled following unspecified development delays.
The VCS retains the same design from the previously revealed Ataribox, one clearly inspired by the original Atari 2600 Video Computer System. The Classic Joystick shares the same retro look, while gamers wanting a more modern input device get a Modern Controller options. Atari is still to detail the software side of things, but insists it will "serve up lots of classic content" while being a "connected device designed for today's living room."
The voice-controlled assistant found in the Switch+ is Amazon's Alexa, although Ecobee says it will eventually add compatibility with Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. Whichever the assistant, users can simply speak out various commands, such as asking for the the weather, news headlines, music playback or connected device control. Further home automation features will also be added through SmartThings and IFTTT integration.

Installers can adjust and edit the system more quickly and simply, with Accelerator 2.0 software allowing the incorporation of "if," "and," "then" and "or" command, as well as in-built commands increasing the number of autonomous tasks completed by the systems.
Python is described as a dynamic and intuitive programming language. It is object-oriented, meaning users can quickly start programming through libraries, modules and functions, without need to learn awkward syntax. It is also very commonly taught to high school and college students, making it a path to both entry in AV while allowing AV-based Python programmers to branch outside of the AV industry.
