High-resolution wireless multi-room audio system maker Bluesound announces the RC1-- a remote control for use of Gen 2 and Gen 2i products from the company offering the most commonly used playback controls.

The RC1 provides users with track forward and backward, volume up and down and play/pause controls, as well as up to 10 custom presets. It is compatible with any Gen 2 or Gen 2i Bluesound player out of the box, as well as BluOS-enabled products from sister brand NAD Electronics, including the Maseters M50.2 Digital Music Player, Masters M10 BluOS Streaming Amplifier, C 658 BluOS Streaming DAC (coming soon), and a number of products from the Custom Install line.

Nvidia follows on the leak of the Shield TV Pro with the announcement of two Shield products-- the next-generation Shield TV and the aforementioned Shield TV Pro, both featuring the Tegra X1+ processor.

“These new models provide a big step up for Shield, which has consistently delivered groundbreaking innovations in the living room since its introduction 5 years ago,” the company claims. “They deliver unquestionably best-in-class entertainment, supported by Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision and our breakthroughs in using AI to improve video streaming playback.”

As mentioned earlier, the 2019 Shield TV comes in two flavours. The regular model is designed to be be as slim as possible, allowing users to hide it behind entertainment systems. It has gigabit ethernet and dual-band wifi for "lightning fast" connectivity, and includes 2GB RAM and 8GB storage (expandable via microSD slot). On the other hand the Pro model is based on the previous Shield TV design, and carries 3GB RAM, 16GB storage and x2 USB ports, allowing users to run a Plex media server and connect external storage or other USB devices.

Nvidia is yet to announce a successor to the Shield TV STB, but a leak on Amazon reveals the "Nvidia Shield TV Pro," a supposed update promising improvements thanks to an update to a Tegra X1+ processor.

As spotted by 9to5Google, the soon deleted Amazon listing featured a device identical to the 2017 Shield TV refresh. It not only features the chassis with the green accent light, it also has the same x2 USB, ethernet and HDMI ports. However the upgrade to a Tegra X1+ processor promises a 25% performance boost, together with 3GB RAM and 16GB of storage (expandable by adding a storage device to the USB ports). The processor update also allows Dolby Vision support, with both Dolby Vision HDR for the visuals and immersive audio via Dolby Atmos and Dolby Digital Plus.

URC debuts the TRC-1480-- a handheld remote with a push-to-talk voice control feature, 2.4-inch touchscreen complete with two-way metadata and hard buttons, all within an ergonomic design.

An integrated microphone allows voice communications with Alexa or Siri (for Apple TV). The TRC-1480 is aimed at both home and pro AV applications, and provides full control of the URC Total Control 2.0 system, including TVs, cable and satellite boxes, AV gear, music systems, lighting systems, security cameras, door locks, thermostats, motorised shades and more.

DVR pioneer TiVo hopes to make a return to hardware with a stick device-- something similar to the Amazon Fire Stick running on Android TV together with upcoming services from the company.

As CEO Dave Shull tells CNN, the attempted comeback follows the recent splitting of the company, with one unit taking care of products and the other of IP licensing. The stick will be the opposite of the high-end DVRs that previously made TiVo's bread and butter, being a simple device one sticks to the back of their TVs. As such it bears a low pricetag, specifically of $50.

The RTI product lineup for CEDIA Expo 2019 includes new controllers with sleek designs and capabilities, as well as the next generation of Alexa voice control and a variety of AV distribution solutions.

Handheld controllers on show include the T4x-- a remote controller featuring a sophisticated design, high-resolution 4-inch capacitive touchscreen and fully programmable soft-touch buttons. It also includes grip sensors, wifi and dual RF. For environments too harsh for standard remote controls RTI has the U3 weatherproof controller. It has an e-Ink display and uses inductive charging and wireless programming updates, allowing for a completely sealed unit. Also on show is the Pro Control Pro24.z, now available in glossy or matte finishes.
