Chord Company launches a first product under the English Electric brand-- the 8Switch, an ethernet switch the company says is designed to deliver high-quality sound from music streamed over a network.

The 8Switch comes inside a machined aluminium enclosure, one English Electric says provides "excellent" protection from acoustic and electrical noise. It offers x8 "audio-grade" 100/1000 Base-T gigabit ethernet ports, all featuring high and low electrical noise isolation to reduce data issues when streaming music over a network.

CEDIA releases "Wifi 6 (802.11ax): High Efficiency Wifi," a white paper diving into the latest wifi standard, one designed to address some of the most prevalent wireless networking issues and provide high efficiency wifi.

As the latest version of the wireless networking standard, Wifi 6 promises higher data rates, more robust connection and simultaneous data reception or transmission between access points and multiple client devices. CEDIA claims it will have "far reaching effects" for installers and customers, since it not only improves the performance but also brings a sales opportunity through the new naming conventions. After all, it represents a shift from names such as 802.11n and 802.11ax to Wifi 5 and Wifi 6, and the on-device logos should stir demand for network upgrades.

NFC Forum Takes on Wireless Charging

The NFC Forum, the organisation behind Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, approves and a Wireless Charging specification (WLC) allowing charging through the wireless standard.

NFC wireless chargingThe the WLC users will be able to wirelessly charge small, battery-powered consumer and IoT devices at a power transfer rate of up to 1W, all using a single antenna in an NFC-enabled device. Such devices will still be able to communicate using the same antenna, and the solution should make it easier to charge low-power devices such as wearables and digital pens.

The KDS-8 from Kramer Electronics is a zero-latency SDVoE-based (10G) AV-over-IP transceiver for distributing AV signals up to 4K@60Hz (4:4:4) via ethernet over copper cable with lossless compression.

The transceiver is a fully standard and compliant SDVoE codec, and enables compatibility with other software and hardware streaming platforms. Being a transceiver, the KDS-8 can be set as either an encoder or decoder. As a decoder, it encodes and sends the HDMI input along with IR, RS-232 and analog audio over an IP network.

Hall Research Sends 4K Video Over UTP Cable

EX-4KUHall Research launches the EX-4KU, a kit consisting of a single-gang wall plate HDBaseT transmitter and a receiver designed to extend 4K HDMI video and USB data over a single UTP cable.

The kit uses HDBaseT 2.0 technology, and the company claims it extends video and USB with zero latency and no compression. The wall plate transmitter provides an HDMI input with a USB port for connection to a PC or Mac. It supports all PC and HDTV resolutions, up to and including 4K UHD (3840 x 2160). The wall plate also provides two USB charing ports, and the extender supports all USB 1.1 and 2.0 devices such as as keyboards, mice, touchscreens, interactive whiteboards and cameras.

The mounting hole pattern is inspired by the Middle Atlantic Level Lock System for small AV devices, providing flexible mounting options. Construction is in durable, wifi-transparent ABS plastic, and it can be mounted either vertically or horizontally (half-width) within the On-Q plastic enclosures to fit any configuration.
