MS Debuts Variable Length Soundbar

MSE Audio announces the CEDIA 2019 debut of the Phase Technology Variable Length Soundbar, a product featuring cut-to-length rods allowing the soundbar to match the length of a TV screen.

Featuring an 8-ohm impedance, the soundbar incorporates three speaker enclosures with six 3-inch ultra-long throw polypropylene subwoofers with NBR surround sound and a 0.75-inch synthetic soft dome tweeter. It is 9.6cm deep and 15.5cm tall, and is designed for applications demanding a width of 1.4m or longer.

Right and Left Offset Version of the James Loudspeaker Small Aperture Architectural Speaker

James Loudspeaker offsetJames Loudspeaker introduces the 63SAS-7HO-2.5R and 63SAS-7HO-2.5L Small Aperture loudspeakers available with either right and left offset, meaning the  woofer port and midrange/tweeter assembly is canted either to the left or right side of the enclosure.

Such an arrangement allows installers to place the 3-inche grille exactly where it needs to be. The offset Small Aperture (SA) speakers also help accommodate plumbing or other obstacles installers may meet while installing an architectural speaker in a ceiling or wall.

Sonos Plans Bluetooth Speaker?

Sonos is working on a portable Bluetooth speaker, The Verge and Zatz Not Funny! report-- one primarily designed for wifi streaming, but also featuring Bluetooth and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) for "simplified setup."

The leak comes as Sonos files the details for two devices with the US Federal Communications Commission, aka the FCC. The filing for product model S17 details a "high-performance wireless speaker and part of the Sonos sound system." The aforementioned reference to Bluetooth is significant, since that would make it the first Sonos speaker with support for the technology, aside from the BLE capability of the Sonos One.

Legrand Nuvo Adds Passive Subwoofers, Digital Amplifiers

Legrand launches a family of Nuvo 8-inch in-ceiling and in-wall passive subwoofers and matching digital amplifiers. The three subwoofers are aimed at small, medium and large home theatre and audio installs, while the amplifiers promise convenience and versatility.

For smaller installations, the NV-SUBIC8 in-ceiling subwoofer features a round magnetic grille (with an optional square grille available) and an infinite baffle designed for maximum placement flexibility. The NV-SUBIW8 and NV-SUBIWDUAL8 are designed for medium and large projects respectively, and both feature a sealed MDF cabinet for a distortion-free bass experience. The NV-SUBIW8 has a square magnetic grille, while the NV-SUBIWDUAL8 features a rectangular grille.

IKEA Sonos-Powered Speakers Hit the Market

Swedish furniture retailer IKEA announces the availability of the first results of its partnership with Sonos-- specifically the Symfonisk-brand shelf speaker and table lamp/speaker combo.

Symfonisk launchFirst launched at Milan Design Week 2019, the Symfonisk audio ranged is designed to "democratise the home sound system." Like other Sonos speakers, the Symfonisk offerings support wifi and AirPlay 2 connectivity, and pair with both the wider Sonos ecosystem and, in case of the table lamp/speaker, the IKEA Tradfri connected light bulb system.

Heritage AcousticsThe range includes 5 in-ceiling speakers, all recognisable by an iconic blue cone finish and the use of larger (up to 25mm) pivoting dome tweeters. A recessed woofer and baffle design permits unrestricted airflow to improve low frequency response and more carefully directed high frequency output. Installation promises to be fast and stable through dog-ear fixings allowing installers to work down to 6mm of ceiling thickness.

JBL Releases Android TV-Powered Soundbar

Back in May 2018 JBL took the stage at Google I/O to present the Link Bar, a soundbar featuring Android TV capabilities. Now, over a year later, the company announces the device is finally ready to ship to retailers.

While not a new device, the Link Bar remains an interesting proposition. After all, it is an Android TV-powered soundbar with built-in Google Assistant, allowing for voice control and compatibility wiht a range of smart home devices. A built-in Chromecast provides an array of media sources, while a Privacy Switch allows users to mute the microphone in case they do not want or need the virtual assistant.
