Genelec Intros SPL S360 Smart Active Loudspeaker

Finnish studio monitor maker Genelec unveils the S360 at ISE 2019-- a smart active loudspeaker featuring a professional level of performance making it ideal for both residential and commercial application.

Genelec S360The S360 features a 10-inch high efficiency woofer and a 1-inch titanium diaphragm compression tweeter housed in an extended directivity control waveguide, housed in a low diffraction enclosure with Finnish woodwork. The result, the company says, delivers neutral reproduction with a short-term SPL capability of 118dB with even higher peaks. It is also features a long-throw capability, being able to deliver studio quality accuracty at listening distances of over 10m.

Audio Excellence Brings UFO to ISE

Audio Excellence, the sound system division of film screen brand Screen Excellence, brings what it claims is a new sonic concept for large TVs and solid screens at ISE 2019-- a solution so unusual the company names it "UFO", as in "Unidentified Flying Object."

UFO The Audio Excellence UFO is named so as a tribute to the local RAF Bentwaters, England extraterrestrial incident of 1980, close to where the company is based in the UK. The company says the solution keeps with the professional cinema practice of placing the centre-, left- and right-channel speakers on the same horizontal plane and behind the acoustically transparent (AT) film screen. It allows customers to experience dialog and action as intended by the film maker, further contributing to the "suspension of disbelief."

Wireless sound system specialist Sonos plans to enter another audio segment, Bloomberg reports-- the company is reportedly working on wireless, over-the-ear headphones, with a release set for 2020.

Sonos tradeshowAs one might imagine, the Sonos headphones should meet the higher end of the market, with a $300+ pricetag. Bloomberg says the company is "focusing on audio quality and the ability to work with multiple music services and digital assistants," pointing out the possible addition of support for Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, not to mention Siri.

August Launch for Ikea Sonos Speakers

A teaser video reveals the launch window for the upcoming speaker collaboration between furniture maker Ikea and wireless audio specialist Sonos-- the SYMFONISK speaker line is set for an August 2019 release.

Sonos IkeaAnnounces way back in December 2017, the SYMFONISK range promises to integrate with both Sonos wireless speakers and Ikea Home Smart devices, such as the Trådfri range of lights, dimmers and switchers. The two companies further detailed the collaboration on June 2018, with the presentation of a prototype unit complete with brackets for mounting beneath an Ikea cabinet or use as a shelf.
