  • PDF

Panasonic, Samsong, Sony and XPAND 3D announce their collaboration on a new universal consumer active 3D glasses standard-- the "Full HD 3D Glasses Initiative."

XPAND GlassesThe companies will develop (and eventually license) radio frequency (RF) system 3D active glasses technology-- including RF protocols between active glasses and displays-- and multple infrared (IR) system protocols.

Development will start from September 2011, with 3D glasses using the new IR/RF protocols to be available in 2012.

The initiative will also involve the use of Bluetooth technologies, which should allow users greater freedom of movement.

Glasses using the new technology should be backwards-compatible with Sony, Samsung and Panasonic's current active 3D displays.
