Toshiba Presents L7, L5 4K TV Series

  • PDF

Toshiba launches a selection of four 4K TVs for 2019-- the UL7A, TL7A, U5LA and VL5A, all claiming to offer both "leading-edge" technologies and "added values" to a wider range of customers.

The higher-end options are the UL7A and TL7A, both available in 49- and 55-inch sizes and featuring an ELED (Edge Emitting LED) panel with support for Wide Colour Gamut (WCG), HDR10 and Dolby Vision HDR dynamic metadata. The UL7A adds a pair of enhanced 42W speakers, the result of a collaboration with Onkyo, but otherwise the two models are essentially identical.

The U5LA comes in 43-, 49- and 55-inch sizes, while the VL5A is available in 43-, 50-, 55- and 65-inch. Both feature a DLED (Direct LED) back-lit panel and while lacking wCG they do feature Dolby Feature HDR. All TVs in the 2019 Toshiba range carry the TRU Picture Engine, a feature the company says controls micro-dimming for better contrast, motion control for minimal judder and upscales non-4K content to "near 4K quality."

Another interesting feature comes in the shape of an optional add-on-- the Toshiba Connect, a device customers can connect to the TV USB ports. It is essentially a box with a far-field microphone allowing compatibility with the Amazon Alexa, bringing about voice-based controls such as turning the TV on/off and changing the volume/channel/inputs, as well as all other functionality brought about by the voice assistant.

The Toshiba 2019 TVs will first go on show at IFA 2019 before hitting the market.
