iRobot, the company behind the Roomba robot vacuum, presents an autonomous lawnmower-- Terra, a robot complete with state-of-the-art mapping and navigation technologies, as well as high-quality mowing.
According to the company, the Terra uses Imprint mapping technology in mow the lawn just like people do, navigating a yard in straight, back-and-forth lines. The robot even remembers where it is in the yard and where it still needs to cover, in case it runs out of battery. In case of such a situation, the robot returns to base to recharge before resuming on mowing duties.
In case users want to set a specific perimeter for the Terra to mow, iRobot provides a standalone wireless beacon system. One simply set the beacons at the required locations, drive the robot around the perimeter once and schedule it to mow. Users have total control as to where the robot goes, meaning it will stay on the lawn and away from flowers. The companion iRobot HOME app provides further customisation, including grass height and mowing times.

The Terra robot mower is available now in Germany, before eventual availability throughout EMEA.
