Hegel Music Systems Enters CEDIA Channel

  • PDF

Norwegian audio brand Hegel Music Systems launches a first amplifier aimed at the home theatre and distributed audio markets-- the C5 series, with 3 models configured as 3-, 4- and 5-channel amplifiers, namely the C53, C54 and C55.

Hegel C5Within each C5 series model are Class AB mono-block analog amplifiers rated at 150W per channel. The amplifiers maintain peak reserve capability the company claims doubles down to 2 ohms, closing in at 600W per channel. Thus, a solo C55 can drive a 5.1 surround theatre, with a few required to drive Dolby Atmos, Auro-3D and DTS:X theatres. They can also bi-amplifier speakers or mate with active cross-overs.

Also found inside the C5 series is patented Hegel "SoundEngine2" technology. Found inside amplifiers from the company, SoundEngine2 promises to cancel out all distortion elements created by the circuits. To do so it plays them back in a negative phase, almost like noise-cancelling headphones, rendering a unique purity and musicality.

Installers can switch phase individually for each channel, as well as select different gain settings for each channel. RCA line and balanced XLR inputs allow integration into a wide range of systems, while input and output control triggers allow for both daisy chaining and placement of amplifiers in a separate room for remote on/off switching.

The C5 amplifiers are 3U tall, and have rack-mount ears integrated into the amp chassis. Feet are also included, allowing placement atop a shelf or in a cabinet.
