KEF Debuts LSX Wireless Speakers

  • PDF

KEF announces a more compact (in terms of both size and budget) followup to the LS50 wireless speakers-- the LSX, a two-speaker wireless system complete with both Airplay 2 and aptX Bluetooth 4.2 support.

KEF LSXAimed as a high performance alternative to soundbars and monophonic smart speakers, the LSX feature a 4-inch version of the KEF Uni-Q driver array, as paired with the bespoke Music Integrity DSP control algorithm. The speaker pair employs four Class-D amplifiers, one for each drive unit, together with dedicated twin DACs offering a path up to 96kHz/24-bit (using the optional wired connection between the 2 speakers) or 48kHz/24-bit in wireless mode. The companion KEF control app provides adjustable EQ setups, while an output allows customers to add a subwoofer.

On the connectivity side, the LSX speakers feature dual-band wifi connectivity with integrated streaming music service support, together with the aforementioned aptX Bluetooth support. The speakers are DLNA/uPNP compliant, and a January 2019 firmware update should add AirPlay 2 compatibility. Wired connectivity comes through optical digital input and a 3.5mm aux input for a smart streaming dongle.

The curved cabinet is designed by Red Dot award winner Michael Young, and employs Finite Element Analysis, as well as the constrained layer damping found in high-end KEF audiophile products. KEF offers the speakers in 4 colours, specifically blue, maroon, olive and black, all clad in fabric from Danix textile maker Kvadrat.

The KEF LSX speakers ship from December 2018.
