The camera has a 120-degree wide-angle lens, allowing customers to capture faces and license plates from multiple angles. True Detect heat-sensing technology prevents false-alarm triggers of the pet movement or tree blowing variety, while heat-based PIR (Passive Infrared) motion detection distinguishes the heat of larger objects, including people and cars.

The Smart camera notifies users of movement triggers via iOS/Android companion SAFE app featuring real-time video and audio viewing. Footage starge takes place both locally on the device and the cloud, and the SAFE app provides review of the past 7 days of local video and 2 days on the cloud. A separately sold ExtraSafe subscription plan adds up to 30 days of cloud storage together with enhanced customer service.

A wire-free design means the camera does not need a DVR or base station. It runs on a rechargeable battery Swann claims only needs charging a few times a year, and customers power the camera through an additional solar panel complete with an adjustable bracket. Another accessory is an outdoor mounting stand with an adjustable ball joint for additional viewing angles.
