Anker's Eufy Kickstarts EverCam Camera

  • PDF

Anker-owned smart home brand Eufy takes to Kickstarter to launch the EverCam-- a wireless security camera the company says is ideal for both indoor and outdoor use.

EverCam The EverCam promises to run wire-free on a battery (a 13400mAh lithium-ion number from Anker) allowing up to 1 year of use on a single charge. Further boosting battery life is a low-power standby mode ensuring the camera only wakes up and starts recording whenever motion is detected, as well as connectivity with an indoor base station using a low-frequency wireless protocol. In turn the base station connects to the internet and users' PCs and smartphones via wifi.

Mounting is screw-free via magnetic base, although can also use a single-screw mount to ensure further security. Eufy also promises software security, since the 16GB microSD card inside the camera features AES 128-bit encryption, and can only be unlocked and viewed once it is plugged into the base station. As such, users do not need to connect to the cloud in order to check recorded footage (even if one can do exactly that through a Eufy companion app).

Further camera features include AI capabilities such as facial recognition, an IR sensor allowing the camera to record footage in case of heat detection, and continuous recording based on specific parameters. Eufy adds the camera will get integration with other services post-release, such as Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa and IFTTT.

The EverCam already raised the initial $50000 crowdfunding goal, and is set to ship on September 2018.
