Brilliant proposes customers replace all their light switches with the Control-- a small touchscreen tablet designed to control lighting, as well as any number of connected devices.
The Control has a 5-inch touchscreen and provides swip-based control for lighting, music and climate. It pairs with a number of smart home devices, including the Nest thermostat, Sonos speakers, Philips Hue bulbs, Ring doorbells and the Honewbell Lyric automation hub via wifi and Bluetooth, and is compatible with IFTT as well as SmartThings and Wink hubs. On the lighting side it is 120V, 5Amp control and dimming compatible through a single switch gang box.
In addition, the device has a video camera, motion detection and a microphone, providing users with voice control of the both native and Amazon Alexa variety. Users can combine two Control units for audio/video intercom capability, and HomeKit support might follow in the future should demand be strong enough. The result, the company says, is a home control system without the need for a "clumsy" smartphone, although a companion iOS/Android app is also included.
The Brilliant Control is set to ship from Q3 2017.
