Panasonic TV Goes Transparent at CES

  • PDF

CES houses many a TV, but none like the most talked about prototype at the Panasonic stand-- a transparent motion-controlled display users can turn invisible with the wave of a hand.

Admittedly the panel has a bit of tint (Panasonic admits it is not wholly happy with the results), but the transformation from what appears to be regular glass to display remains quite impressive.

The display can even make different sections opaque and transparent, as seen in a split-screen demo with one display half showing a music player while the other remains translucent. Control comes through either report, Minority Report-style hand gestures or voice.

There are some limitations to the technology-- as with other transparent displays the prototype is a bit dark, necessitating the need for under-shelf lighting. Still, it remains an impressive demo, and one only hopes Panasonic uses the technology in a piece of CE soon enough.
