General Electric continues stepping into automation as it presents an intelligent colour-changing LED lighting solution compatible with HomeKit, the Apple smart home device control platform.

GE Connected HomeThe GE HomeKit-enabled LED bulb features the company's Align technology, and allows customers to automate lighting according to their "natural sleep circadian rhythm"-- meaning it tracks sleep patterns and automatically outputs appropriate light, with bright blue-tone lighting in the morning and amber lighting "reminiscent of candlelight and campfires" in the evening.

As mentioned earlier control comes via HomeKit and secure iDevice pairing. Users can control lighting devices individually or as groups, and the system should be easy to integrate with outer connected devices.

"Lighting is how many first experiment with the idea of a smart home, and our insights show that consumers want the ability to control lighting from anywhere, automate lighting and pair lighting with other devices—like sensors, thermostats and door locks,” GE says. “[HomeKit] will bring a seamless, intuitive user experience using Siri and superior quality of light.”

The GE HomeKit-enabled LED product should hit the market later this year.
