Sony Bravia TVs Get HDR

  • PDF

The Sony flagship Bravia X93C and X94C 4K/UHD TVs will get HDR (High Dynamic Range) compatibility by "this summer" via firmware update, allowing customers to "enjoy the peak brightness of LED as well as deeper blacks."

Bravia HDR TVHDR is an upcoming video format promising a wider range of brightness levels. It should be available in Blu-ray form, as well as in streaming video services such as Netflix and Amazon Instant Video, later during 2015.

However Sony fails to specify the HDR standards the TVs support, or the peak brightness of the aforementioned compatible TVs. Instead, it simply says the 75-inch X94C features "X-tended Dynamic Range PRO" while the 55- and 65-inch X93C has "X-tended Dynamic Range" to provide "a superior viewing experience compared to that of normal HDR video source as well as any video source with greater contrast."

Powering the TVs is the 4K Processor X1. Sony also includes Google Cast capability and a One-Flick remote complete with voice search.

Either way the HDR-compatible TVs should start shipping as part of a 12-strong 2015 4K TV lineup from May 2015.
