TP Vision announces the Philips 8100 and 8200 HDTVs as well as the 8800 series UHD TVs, the first Android-based TVs to be available in Europe and Russia according to the company.
All the above mentioned sets run on regular Android (not Google TV), and allow access to services and apps via the Google Play store. Philips Smart TV features are also included, with Cloud TV online channels and Cloud Explorer access to content saved on Dropbox accounts.
The 8100 and 8200 HDTVs carry quad-core processors, while the 8800 is powered by a hex-core chip for 100Hz "Perfect Motion Rate Ultra" and HD content upscaling to UHD resolutions. The TVs also carry a 4-sided Ambilight with a newly integrated gaming mode for quick response to fast moving action and sports scenes.
An integrated camera provides automatic contrast and sharpness adjustments, as well as speech- and gesture-based control. Customers can also control the TVs via iOS and Android TV Remote app.
The Philips 8000 series TVs should ship from Q2 2014.
