Roku Stick Update Drops MHL

  • PDF

Roku HDMIRoku announces an update on the 2012 Streaming Stick-- the Streaming Stick (HDMI Version), an upgrade dropping MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link) support in favour of compatibility with every HDTV available.

If you might recall the first Streaming Stick is only compatible with TVs certified as "Roku Ready" from vendors including Element Electronics, GlobalVue, Haier, Hitachi, Mitsubishi and Onkyo, among others.

Internally the new version is all but identical to the first, being a Roku 1 crammed inside a wifi-enabled USB stick-sized package. However it now also includes a remote controller (if one lacking the motion control and headphone jack), updated software and control via iOS and Android apps.

The updated Roku Streaming Stick will be available in the UK and Ireland from April 2014.
