The First "Augmented" TV Experience?

  • PDF

SeeSpace promises the "augmented" TV experience of our more futuristic dreams with the InAiR Smart HDMI Adapter, a dongle adding an extra interface layer on top of regular HDTV viewing.

SeeSpace InAiRThe device plugs between TVs and STBs via HDMI, and in turn connects to the internet via wifi. It identifies what the TV is showing and gathers relevant content from the internet, placing it in on-screen UI layers in real time.

The UI shows up on all HDTVs, but the effect is perhaps more spectacular on 3DTVs, where foreground layers appear floating "in air," hologram-style (thus explaining the name). Mobile device apps handle control, but for "a true Minority Report experience” the dongle is also compatible with the Kinect and Leap Motion gesture controllers.

Video demos have the interface showing 3D models and information pulled from Wikipedia over a documentary and a Formula 1 race with relevant data from an existing app on top. According to the company this negates the need to look up and down between TV and mobile displays.

InAiR preorders are currently open on Kickstarter, where SeeSpace already beat an intial $100000 pledge goal. If all goes to plan shipments start from September 2014.
