Sonance adds 50 new models to the Visual Performance speaker series, with models including round, square, rectangle, 4-inch and 6-inch (2-way), 8inch (3-way), single stereo, LCR, Surround, thinline, extreme, woofers and subwoofers.

The speakers use the latest Sonance technology and construction in materials such as carbon fibre, rohacell, kevlar, nomex and polypropylene. The company says it employed computer modeling and test software (FineMotor, FineCone, MOTiv, Clio FW10 and Klippel Distortion Analyzer) to produce consistent frequency response and sonic signature across all listening levels and minimal distortion at higher volume.

Power response is +/-60 degrees, allowing optimal speaker positioning (such as aligned with down lights) while providing uncompromised sound quality and coverage.

Digital Projection introduce the world’s first 3-chip DLP LED Projector at InfoComm, an addition to their Titan range.

Aimed primarily at high-end home cinemas, as well as the simulation and visualization markets, this projector features all the video processing of the Titan range plus 60,000+ hours of stable and consistent LED illumination

It features high frame rate and low latency capabilities. The LED illumination provides a colour gamut well beyond requirements for HDTV or cinema. For the more demanding applications, FastFrame Smear Reduction is available via the high bandwidth inputs.

There is support for all the commercial and domestic 3D formats. There is also an IR model available so you can use night vision. You can dim the LED light output from 100% to 1% to simulate different light conditions.

UltraViolet, the cloud-based media "digital locker," is to make a first appearance is non-English speaking territories-- Handelsblatt reports the service rolls out in a number of W. European countries from H2 2013.

Germany and France gain access to online media on 30 September 2013, with further launches in Luxembourg, Holland and Belgium to follow on yet unannounced dates.

The news comes from worldwide Sony Pictures Home Entertainment president David Bishop, who tells Handelsblatt the UltraViolet service "received positive feedback." Sony leads the service together with 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros., Paramount and the other members (74 in total) of the Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem.

At InfoComm, Screen Innovations (SI) added two new reference quality screen material options to its Zero Edge line of projection screens. Pure White is a 1.3 gain screen, while Pure Gray is a .8 gain screen.

Both feature SI’s Zero Edge bezel and use a proprietary “Micro Texture.”

Pure Zero Edge screens do not require any additional assembly once unpacked. Mounting options include on-wall or flown from the ceiling by slender cables. New optional LED lighting is built in to the frame and now incorporates six custom preferences and 256,000 colors, including 6500 Kelvin white.

Available in large-format projection screen sizes up to 120” in 16:9 and up to 150” in 2.35:1, the Zero Edge line now includes Pure White 1.3 gain, Pure Gray .85 gain as well as Black Diamond 2.7 gain, Black Diamond 1.4 gain or Black Diamond .8 gain screen materials.

Samsung buys "key talent assets" from Israel-based STB and media streaming maker Boxee for an undisclosed sum in order to "help [Samsung] continue to improve the overall user experience across our connected devices."

"Joining Samsung means we will be able to work on products that marry the best hardware and software in the TV space, products that will be used by tens of millions of people and will help to shape the future of TV," a Boxee statement says.

While Boxee's asking price is a mystery, the company had previously received $26.5 million worth in investment from US and Israeli venture capitalists.

The purchase might make a good match for both companies-- while being the biggest TV maker in the world Samsung struggles when it comes to services. On the other hand Boxee finds it difficult to sell its oddly-shaped STBs despite having a generally warmly reviewed video-on-demand offering.

"It makes more sense for [Boxee] to be part of a wider offering rather than selling itself as a single function device," Informa analyst Paul Jackson tells the BBC.
