Music lovers will have initial access to 6 million songs from labels like Universal, Sony, Warner, EMI and a number of indipendent labels.

Other European countries should have the service sometime in 2011. So far mentioned are Germany, France, Italy and Spain. Unsurprisingly, no mention of other European countries yet.

Through the service customers can play their music of choice on a number of Sony internet-enabled devices, including the latest Bravia TVs and blu-ray players, PS3 consoles and Vaio computers.

Sony offers 2 subscription models-- Basic (works as an infinite ad-free radio station for €3.99 monthly) and Premium (lets users listenn to any song on demand for €9.99 monthly). Users can also synch DRM-free music files on their media players to listen to their music across all Music Unlimited compatible devices.

Barix turns most 8-ohm speakers into an IP speaker solution with its Exstreamer P5.

Extreamer P5The device is an all-in-one solution for audio over IP distribution. It supports universal IP standards (TCP/IP, RTP, SIP, multicast and ethersound) and directly connects 8-ohm speakers to an IP or ethersound network.

Barix says the Exstreamer P5 allows integrators to install IP speakers for any number of options, including retrofits for legacy systems.

The device operates though temperature extremes (0 to 55 Celsius) and enables zoning applications for multi-speaker systems (with individual local/remote channel selection and volume control). It also supports PoE and class D audio amplification.

Spherical Elegance for Cabasse's Statement

  • PDF

Cabasse LOceanL'Océan is Cabasse's latest statement speaker system, with a spherical form factor similar to the company's earlier La Sphére.

The spherical enclosures carry a 23cm triaxial drive unit (derived from La Sphére) and a 38cm woofer. The stand the speakers sit on is 1.2m tall.

The speakers' base houses 4 digital amplifiers per channel-- 1KW for bass, 500W for each low-mid and high-mid driver and 250W for tweeter.

Canon (Cabbasse's parent company) digital signal processing controls the amplifiers. It adjusts frequency response and crossovers to the room they're in via calibration microphone (included).

A preamplifier/CRCS controller unit converts analogue sources to digital before passing input to the speakers.

The speakers' price tag is as impressive as the sculptured stand they sit on-- €80000, to be precise.
