Krell Intros K-300i Integrated Amp

US-based audio maker Krell announces the K-300i-- a next-generation integrated stereo amplifier incorporating a newly developed amplifier circuit design featuring Krell iBias technology.

Krell K300iThe K-300i is sequel to the KAV-300i, an integrated amplifier Krell launched back in 1999. It is rated at 150W per channel into 8 Ohms, or 300W into 4 Ohms, and promises the performance of a Class A amplifier without the high heat and power consumption of traditional Class A designs. Further characteristics include an extended frequency curve with smooth highs and dynamic bass delivery.

The amplifier comes in 2 configurations, analogue and analogue/digital. The digital option adds an ESS Sabre Pro DAC for digital to analogue signal conversion, and handles digital music formats up to 192kHz/24-bit. It supports UPnP music servers and NAS devices, includes the Spotify, vTuner, Tidal, Deezer and QoBuz streaming services, and is Roon Ready and MQA compatible.

Atlantic Technology Intros 1st Smart Speaker

Atlantic Technology is the next company to take on smart speakers with the Gatecrasher 1, a wifi-based tabletop system the company describes as the first in a series of "smart multiroom wireless speakers."

Gatecrasher1The Gatecrasher1 is a 2.1 system with an array of high-performance drivers, including a pair of 0.75-inch aluminium dome tweeters and 2-inch cone bass-mid speakers. Meanwhile the internal subwoofer consists of a 4-inch driver coupled with a down-firing 5-inch passive radiator. Powering all is a 60W Class D digital amplifier housed in a high density MDF cabinet with either a Makassar ebony or piano black lacquer finish over real-wood veneer.

Wireless connectivity comes through Bluetooth and wifi, with wifi capability including dual-band 802.11ac wifh Wifi Alliance and DLNA certification. Bluetooth 4.0 with AptX technology allows compatibility with high-res audio codecs, and customers can stream from a Bluetooth-connected device to multiple Gatecrasher units. The system is compatible with a wide range of sources, including Windows and Mac PCs, Android and iOS mobile devices, and game consoles such as the Xbox One and PS4.

The Aquio Water Bottle/Speaker Combo

Beach-going customers having to choose between carrying either a water bottle or a portable speaker have to choose no more-- the Aquio combines the two into a single device through a collaboration with iHome.

Aquio bottlesThe Aquio bottle features stainless steel construction, and carries 470ml of either cold and hot liquid. It is double-walled, and promises to keep the contents cold for up to 24 hours or hot for 14 hours. Meanwhile the speaker is IP-67-rated for protection against water and sand, and is covered in water-resistant acoustic fabric.

The iHome-powered speaker offers 5W of power, with digital echo cancellation and talk/end button for speakerphone and audio caller ID. It actually makes the bottom part of the bottle, and can be screwed off and used separately.

Sonos and Ikea Preview SYMFONISK Speakers

Back in December 2017 furniture maker Ikea revealed the 3rd step in its "Home Smart" initiative through a partnership with Sonos-- with the result being the SYMFONISK smart speaker range.

Ikea sonos speakerRevealed via a photo of a prototype perched above a Sonos Play:5 speaker, the SYMFONISK range promises to integrate with both Sonos wireless speakers and Ikea Home Smart devices, such as the Trådfri range of lights, dimmers and switchers. And this being Ikea, the prototype features brackets allowing one to either mount it beneath an Ikea cabinet or use it as a shelf.

Yamaha Puts 3D Audio in YAS-108 Soundbar

Yamaha announces the YAS-108-- a sequel to the YAS-107 soundbar featuring a slimmer, fabric-lined design with rounded edges and out-of-the-box DTS Virtual:X 3D sound.

Yamaha YAS-108The YAS-108 has the same built-in dual-subwoofers as the YAS-107, and Yamaha promises improved Bluetooth performance allowing users to connect up to two devices simultaneously. Wired connectivity is also included via x2 HDMI, optical TOSLink and analog audio ports, making it compatible with both modern and older TVs. One of the HDMI ports has ARC support, allowing soundbar control through the TV remote.

MSE Audio starts shipping the Phase Technology HV subwoofer line-- specifically the HV101-LP, HV101-II and HV121-II, all featuring treated pulp drivers with high-excursion rubber surrounds.

MSE Audio subwooferEach sub includes on-board DSP smart limiting to monitor and adjust output for dynamic, undistorted bass, along with gain control, phase switch, variable crossover, L&R inputs and a dedicated LFE input.

The HV101-LP is a "low profile" subwoofer, meaning customers can place it underneath couches, tables and other furniture to hide it within a room. Along with the entire HV subwoofer line it features a 40 - 250Hz variable crossover with a 24dB/Octave low pass + LFE and 150W of maximum power.
