The increasing popularity of vinyl spurs further interest in turntables, bringing about products such as the DUO-- a miniature all-in-one turntable featuring a detachable Bluetooth speaker.
Aimed at customers curious about vinyl but unwilling to invest in a whole stereo system, the DUO is a small turntable with a reduced platter just 25% the diameter of standard turntables. The makers claim the belt drive has a "unique rotational stabilisation" able to reduce vibrations, with a wow and flutter (aka the distortion the turntable generates as it plays the record) of less than 0.9%. Also included are an Audio-Technica AT3600 cartridge and a spring-equipped tonearm able to generate a tracking force of 2.5g.
The Bluetooth speaker part of the DUO sits under the turntable to create a single flush unit. It has 10-15m range, carries a Qualcomm CSR8670 chip and supports high-resolution 24-bit 48kHz audio through the aptX protocol. The speaker works independently of the turntable, meaning it can be paired with any other audio source, and features x2 full-range drivers and x2 low-frequency radiators. It even features built-in Alexa functionality, and in case one owns two of the speakers they can be paired in a left-right stereo configuration.
The DUO turntable is available on a preorder basis via Kickstarter in a choice of orange, yellow or black colours. Shipments promise to start on December 2018.
