Klipsch Debuts Small Aperture Architectural Speakers

  • PDF

The Professional Series Reference Small Aperture speakers are the first discrete, small aperture custom installation speakers from Klipsch, claiming high-performance sound in a small form factor.

Klipsch professionalThe series consists of the PRO-14RC in-ceiling speaker designed to size match the diameter of recessed can lights, the PRO-14RW 4-inch in-wall speaker and the PRO-24-RW-LCR dual 4-inch in-wall left, centre, right (LCR) speaker. The small aperture speakers are designed to reproduce Klipsch Reference component speaker acoustics, and use core components from the line.

Tractrix horns in the in-wall models provide controlled directivity of high frequencies for more dynamic, detailed sound with higher efficiency. Aluminium dome tweeters minimise distortion, and IMG woofers allow exceptional effeciency and good low frequency reproduction from small speakers.

Installation comes through Sky Hook by Swarm technology, a tool-free fully automatic self-adjusting installation system promising to reduce install times by 75%. According to the company, installers simply need to cut a hole, attach wires and press the speaker into the hole, with Sky Hook adapting to the surface thickness with a preset clamping force able to prevent breaking the dog leg or cracking drywall. Removals are also easy and fast with a quarter turn of a screwdriver.

On the bass side Klipsch offers the Professional Series PRO-800SW-- an in-ceiling subwoofer able to deliver clean, dynamic low frequencies for distributed audio or whole home audio installations. It has a robust yet flexible port tube with a 4.25-inch opening, matching the diameter of the PRO-14RC in-ceiling speaker. An 8-inch long-throw cerametallic woofer provides bass, and a dual voice coil design allows system design versatility. The subwoofer can also act as an in-floor option with a 4x10-inch floor vent accessory (available separately).

Klipsch says the custom designed the presets for optimised EQ and limiter settings of the KDA series amplifiers to maximise output and acoustic performance of the Professional series architectural speakers and subwoofer. Network control drivers from Control4, Crestron and RTI allow communications with Klipsch DSP amps for seamless control and optimal sound.
