Mass Fidelity Ships Core Wireless Speaker

  • PDF

Mass Fidelity releases the the fruit of a 2014 Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign-- the Core, a portable Bluetooth speaker the company claims can replace a whole home stereo system.

Mass Fidelity CoreThe Core is small enough to fit in one's hands yet promises to push full stereo sound through "Acoustic Holography," a technology taking advantage of an acoustic effect called "wave field synthesis." In a few words, the speaker uses 5 drivers, 120W amplifier, a downward-firing subwoofer and "several" digital signal processors to push auio wave fronts into the air. The wave fronts collide with the walls in the room to create a "holographic" stereo image without need for the listener to sit in a particular sweet spot.

However, for the best possible sound users must place the Core against a wall roughly equidistant from the walls on either side.

The speaker packs an 8-hour battery and connects to audio sources via Bluetooth, optical cable and 3.5mm input. Android smartphone users get simple tap-to-pair via NFC, and a wired output allows for an optional subwoofer. In addition, Mass Fidelity says customers can easily set up multi-room speaker systems, since a click of a button creates a dedicated 5GHz network connecting up to 8 Cores.

The Core speaker is available now.
